Enrollment

Ages, Hours, and Tuition

Each of our two primary classrooms is a mixed age group (3–6 years) with eight openings per class each academic year (total of 16 openings), at the younger age of the spectrum. We give priority to siblings, and, should a space arise for an older child, we give preference to Montessori transfer students. We are strictly a school and do not have before- or after- school care although we help facilitate such care through our Childcare Network. All children come five days a week. Children arrive at 8:30 AM. Younger children finish their day at 12:30 PM (Children’s House), and our kindergarten-age children (Montessori Extended Day) stay for a longer day and finish school at 2:30 PM.

We follow the Portland Public Schools calendar with regard to vacations and holidays and most In-Service days. We offer a six-week summer program that runs mid-June through the end of July.

  • Tuition for our Children’s House program for 2009–2010 is $5,550.00. A monthly payment plan is available ($555.00/month, August–May).

  • Tuition for our Extended Day Program (for Montessori students in their kindergarten year) for 2009-2010 is $6,675.00. A monthly payment plan is available ($667.50/month, August–May).

Whole Child offers limited financial assistance to families in need.

Enrollment Process

Because of our outstanding reputation, our AMI accreditation and our location in southeast Portland, Whole Child has many parents expressing interest in our program. Unfortunately, we can only accommodate a small percentage.

If you are interested in a possible placement for your child at Whole Child, please follow the steps outlined below.

  • Visit the Contact Us page and email your contact information.

  • Wait for a letter confirming that we have an opening. This letter will also extend an invitation for you to observe a working classroom to learn more about Montessori philosophy and the Whole Child Montessori Center community. Letters are generally issued during the enrollment period (primarily February–March). The number of letters sent is determined by the projected number of openings.

  • Schedule your appointment for your classroom observation. Meet with our Head of School to discuss your observation and any questions you may have regarding our program. Pick up an application.

  • Submit your application with the non-refundable $75 application fee.

  • Wait for your registration form then submit a non-refundable space deposit of $500.00.
